Milnerton Lighthouse

Situated on Woodbridge Island directly opposite Atlantic Sunsets Apartment Accommodation, Milnerton Lighthouse was completed on 10th March 1960.

The Milnerton Lighthouse is a 21 metre high cylindrical tower painted white, with a revolving electric optic producing 800000 candela. With 3 flashes every 20 seconds, it has a light range of 25 sea miles.

The Milnerton Lighthouse stands guard over a stretch of coastline that has wrecked more ships than any other in South Africa, with over 150 ships having been wrecked between Green Point and Blaauwberg in the last few centuries

The Wooden Bridge

The wooden bridge, declared a national monument in 1987, was constructed in 1900 of jarra (Australian Mahogany). In an attempt to defend the Cape Coast against General Smuts' raids into the Colony, the bridge was built by the Royal Engineers to give military access to the island, and via this up the coast

The wooden bridge is still used today for pedestrian access, but a modern concrete bridge has been built for vehicular access
